Cleanliness & Raising Children

June 25, 2008 – 9:04 am

So, I am actually ripping off this post from my sister in law. I found this comic on her site, and it just really got me thinking. How often have I told my kids silly things that they may now believe? Just a thought.

Mormonpedia - It’s Coming

June 24, 2008 – 4:13 pm

After much negotiation, and concessions, I have acquired the name mormonpedia.com. I had already acquired mormonpedia.net, and .org. Now the acquisition of the final web property is complete.

Unlike my other business ventures where I have held the details close to my heart, I am keeping nothing about this project secret. Maybe because I stand to make no money from it, and I have already spent like a drunken sailor on it. Who knows? But my goal is to get the word out that this is coming.

The site won’t work like a true Wiki. It will not be based on a user/edit model. Users may submit articles, information, topics etc…. but every piece of content will be double checked against actual LDS facts to ensure validity. How are we going to support this type of content management? Like I said - drunken sailor. I feel my money will be best used put to a good cause like this.

I am currently hiring artists, programmers, historians, marketers, and assistants. If your interested, please drop me line. Our offices will be in West Jordan right by the airport, but they won’t be ready for about 60 days. In the meantime, you will be able to work from home.

And spread the word. Mormonpedia is coming. (and is it bad that I used the term drunken sailor when talking about an LDS informational site?)

To reiterate: I am really not doing this for money. This is a non-profit operation and my income comes from other places. There’s no ad-words, there’s no affiliate model, and there’s no ulterior motive. I am merely taking the challenge of Elder Ballard to get the truth out. Part of his talk is already on mormonpedia.com (assuming your ISP has propagated already).

New Birkenstocks

June 16, 2008 – 9:50 am

I have always enjoyed Birkenstock’s. Ever since I was 12, when I got my first pair, I new that these were the sandals for me. I have only owned 3 pairs in the past 17 years - and that has been just fine. The thing is - new Birkenstock’s suck. They are miserably uncomfortable for about the first 2 months. Knowing that they will turn into a joyous wearing experience after the break-in period makes the pain bearable. And, as my Birkenstock’s tend to last for 4 years, or more, it is a small price to pay.

A former friend of mine had me convinced that Born sandals were better. It wasn’t a tough sell, as I already loved all my Born shoes. And, Born sandals are comfortable the minute you slide them on for the first time. But - It has been only one year and my Born sandals 1) stink (they collect smells) and 2) offer no support (they are completely worn down).

I will admit that the Born sandals do look classy. However - the smells they omit (even with much powdering) outweighs the cosmetics. Anyway - be sure to check out my new sandals. I will be wearing them with everything, including suits, to speed up the break in process.

Ah, Gin Blossoms

June 5, 2008 – 8:36 am

Every now and then a band comes along that just makes you feel better every time you hear one of their songs. For me, one of those bands is Gin Blossoms. Yes, all their songs sound the exact same. As much as I like this band - I actually don’t own any of their music. I never really had to. Even though they are pretty old - they still get tons of airplay - so I always seem to be able to find them on the radio. But last night I came across their page as I was browsing iTunes. I am such a sucker when it comes to iTunes.

And hey - I just looked them up and learned that they are from Tempe Arizona. The site of my new Wanderwood offices… so that’s cool too.

A & 2

May 31, 2008 – 8:48 pm

I have had this problem since, well, as long as I can remember. I am pretty sure it stems from my short attention span - ( more on the benefits of my short attention span later… there are many ).

When I am describing something that contains multiple parts - I always start with A. As in A: this issue and B: this issue. The problem is…. by the time I get to B, I have forgotten if I am using letters or numbers, and always say 2: etc……

I thought I was alone on this issue, however - tonight, I was watching the Pixar story on Starz. And - Brad Bird, the director of The Incredibles…. did the EXACT same thing!

Love it.

Yep, I have daughters. Which may be a part of my love and fascination with these spots. Either way, they are perfect, in nearly every way.

I Dream In Guitar Hero Notes

May 30, 2008 – 11:32 am

These past few months have been very good to me and my family. This led to a splurge, in which we bought a new HDTV. It really started when we bought a bunch of new furniture. When we got home from that outing, I realized how lame our old TV would look in said furniture. So… shopping we went. There was a caveat however; I could get whatever TV I wanted, but my wife had to get a Wii. She drives the hard bargain! Read the rest of this entry »

Do You Really Control Your Brand?

May 6, 2008 – 10:44 am

There is an interesting notion going around that consumers control your brand. At first glance, and with a light understanding of social media, it is easy to buy into this notion. The perpetrators of this theory are most typically aficionados of social media marketing.
